Intraday Colored Time Regions Indicator

Another free indicator brought to you by the author of NinjaScript Programmer's Launch Pad V8. Feedback welcome.

Overview

This indicator for NinjaTrader 8 draws colored regions on an intraday chart for the time period you specify. The example screen shot shows a region from 9:45 AM to 4:00 PM on a 15 minute chart. It appears to work on minute, tick, range, and Renko charts. (That's all I've tried it with so far.) You can download the indicator here.

Intraday Colored Time Regions Indicator

I wrote this because I'm looking for historical price patterns that take place during regular trading hours so I can identify support and resistance levels. (I don't use a 15-minute chart for that, the screen shot above just helps show the colored regions on multiple days.) I then use those levels with the Support and Resistance Lines Indicator to plot them on the chart for subsequent trading days.

The shaded regions just make it a little easier to focus my eyes on regular trading hours, and yet still allow me to see what happens before and after that time range.

Using the Indicator

Install the Indicator in the usual way. Add BzvDailyTimeRegions to a chart. In the properties, specify the StartTime, EndTime, RegionColor, and AreaOpacity. Area opacity of 0 is completely transparent, and 100 is completely opaque. The indicator doesn't do any parameter input validation, so make sure the StartTime is sufficiently before the EndTime.

If you want more than one region to draw during a single day, then add the indicator to the chart again, and set its parameters to a different time range and color.
